Learn how StandBy Mode Pro affects battery use, why OLED screens matter, and which settings help you save power while your phone is charging.
Battery is the first objection people raise about StandBy Mode Pro: leaving the phone's screen on sounds like the opposite of saving power. The concern makes sense, but the answer comes down to one simple difference the app's own name already gives away — "StandBy" assumes a charger.
Here's what actually uses the battery, what doesn't, and which settings to adjust if you still want more control.
StandBy Mode Pro is built to run while the phone is plugged in, so the display draws power from the charger, not the battery, while it's on. If you want the screen to turn off after a while instead of staying lit for the whole charge, the Screen Sleep Timer under Settings → General handles that.
To see what that looks like in practice, we tested it on a Realme 14 Pro+ with an AMOLED screen. The phone charged to 100% on Turbo Charging with StandBy Mode Pro running the whole time, which took about 4 hours. Then we unplugged it and left it on a nightstand for 2 days with the app still open, without touching it (Wi-Fi and notifications on). It was at 89% after 24 hours and 78% after 48 hours: about 11% a day, off the charger.
Yes, but only on AMOLED/OLED panels. On those screens, each pixel has its own light source and can be switched off individually, so a dark background keeps most pixels off. On LCD screens, it makes no difference, since the backlight stays on behind the whole panel either way, so power use is the same no matter what color is on screen. Keeping the same bright pixels lit for many hours in a row also causes burn-in on OLED panels—another reason not to leave a brighter clock face running all night.
It's worth separating this from the phone's native Always-On Display, which is a different thing: running straight off the battery (no charger involved), it stays under 1% per hour on AMOLED screens, according to SlashGear's roundup on the topic — a number we cover in more detail in our Always-On Display FAQ. StandBy Mode Pro starts from a different baseline, since its screen stays on with the phone plugged in, not draining the battery.
Besides the Screen Sleep Timer, Night Mode dims the brightness and applies a red tint to the screen, which helps save power and also makes the display easier on the eyes at night.
Any app that keeps the screen on will use battery when the phone isn't charging, and StandBy Mode Pro is no exception. That's why it's designed to run on the charger. If you want more control, the Screen Sleep Timer and Night Mode are the two settings that make the biggest difference.

Want this on your phone? StandBy Mode Pro turns your charging phone or tablet into a clock and widget display. It runs on Android 7 or newer and is free to download, with in-app purchases.
